Cody Spring Classic Day 1

Well, day one is in the books and it was a success!

Practice ice - I signed up for a 15 minute practice session and it really wasn't enough time. I got some stuff done but it was a really quick 15 minutes! I did a few laps to warm up and then ran through the two MIF elements I was going to compete with and those were fine. With my remaining few minutes I ran through both dances since I knew I wouldn't get more than a five minute warm up on them tomorrow morning. Before I knew it, they were calling us off the ice. Yikes.

Bronze MIF Event - We never got starting orders so I wasn't sure which of the three of us would go first. Wouldn't you know, it was me. Damn. Since I had never done a MIF event before I was especially nervous going first because I wasn't sure how the judges wanted me to skate the moves. Like, do all three of us do the Circle 8 and then we all do the 3 turns? Or do we each individually do both moves? And what order do they want them in? Luckily, Coach Jill was there and she investigated for us. So yeah, the judges wanted us to each perform the Circle 8 followed by the 3 turns. It felt like a test session in a way because it was so quiet while I was performing but there was a crowd cheering for me so it felt more like a competition and, therefore, less scary. I performed them well and I ended up with GOLD! But...I had some really tough competition so, as well as I did, I knew that it could go either way between myself and one of my other competitors (an RMFSC team mate and we are both students of Christopher so we were trained well!). Here is the video for the Circle 8 and here is the one for the Power 3 Turns.

It was a nice kickoff to the competition for me but I still have three events I have to compete in tomorrow. I'm pretty nervous about dance and I'm always nervous about free skate. At least my final event tomorrow is "survivor" and I can just have fun with it. Ugh, I'm already tired thinking about tomorrow. Stay tuned!
